Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I get my UNCG FirstCard?

Go to the UNCG FirstCard Center, located in Elliott University Center (Room 121). A FirstCard representative is there to assist you from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.

What do I need to bring to get my UNCG FirstCard Plus?

Students must have "Proof of Registration" (e.g. - printout of class schedule from UNCGenie or paid bill) and picture ID. Faculty/Staff must present a picture ID and be in the Banner System with an active job assignment.

How do I activate my card?

Your card should work automatically once you've enrolled in classes. If you experience problems with your card, please contact the UNCG FirstCard Center, located in Elliott University Center (Room 121).

Where does my card work?

Your card has the potential for being used at all campus dining locations, the UNCG Bookstore, and soda vending and laundry services (washers and dryers) in the residence halls.

How do I put money on my card?

Several methods exist for putting money onto your card. Please refer to the ECash and ECash 2 section for specific instructions.

Can anyone else use my card?

No. The UNCG FirstCard is not transferable and should be carried only by you at all times.

Can other people put money on my card?

Certainly. Your parents, friends, siblings, grandparents, and of course you, can put money on your card at any time. Please see the ECash and ECash2 section to find out how.

To whom is the check made payable?

All checks should be payable to UNCG. The check should also have the student’s name and ID number (in most cases this is the social security number). These pieces of information will allow the staff to add the money into the correct account.

Am I notified if someone sends money to be applied to my card?

As a student, you will be notified that money has been sent. You will then be asked to come to the UNCG FirstCard Center to have the money applied to your card.

Can I use my PIN protected purse, E-Cash2, for all services on campus?

At this time, ECash 2 can be used at the UNCG Bookstore, Student Health Services, Resnet, and Parking Services. ECash functions anywhere the card is accepted, including the locations listed above. Money can be transferred from Ecash 2 (PIN protected purse) to ECash when needed.

Can my account be erased, and if so, what is the best way to protect my card?

Treat your card with care. Do not punch holes in it or place it near anything that would erase the magnetic stripe. Do not expose the card to water. Card holders are for sale in the UNCG Bookstore. These are recommended, as they protect the smart chip on the card and will hang from any key chain.

What does it mean when my card reads "Bad Card"?

Most likely the chip has been damaged. Bring your card to the UNCG FirstCard Center to have a staff member examine your card.

What if my card is stolen/lost?

Contact the UNCG FirstCard Center immediately if your card is lost, stolen, or damaged. Replacement cards cost $15. Please see Lost, Stolen or Damaged Cards for instructions on recovery of money.

What if my card is stolen/lost on a weekend?

Report problems of this nature first thing Monday morning to the UNCG FirstCard Center. Replacement cards cost $15. Please refer to the Lost, Stolen or Damaged Cards section for instructions on recovery of money.

What if I have further questions which are not answered here?
